About this winery

In 1994, Pablo Eguzkiza and Telmo Rodríguez, along with a third oenologist, created a Garnacha from old bush vineyards in Navarra. The wine was called Alma (soul). This is how the business started, originally under the name of Compañía de Vinos de La Granja. The name was a declaration of intent: it made it clear that the company would be producing more wines in the future and contained a homage to La Granja, the famous glassworks, a centre of outstanding Spanish craftwork that has all but...

Area: Rioja Alavesa
Town: Lanziego de Álava
Place: Valvarreniga, La Estrada, Ermita, La Serna, Cerezos del Pinto, Veriquete, Castillejo
Grape variety: Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha
Pruning: 100% bush vine
Soil: Placed between 500 and 600 m of altitude. Located on plateaus over continental Miocene sandstone strata. Flat shallow soils, stony, calcareous and silty textured. Low fertility and low water retention capacity.
Viticulture: The 7 plots form 4 hectares of own vineyards worked in biodynamic way in process of getting the demeter certification and in no labour.
Harvest: Selection in vineyard. 100% hand picking in cases.

Fermentation tank: Oak wooden casks of 3000 kg
Maturing: 18 Months in oak casks (1500-200 litres) and barrels (225 litres)
