About this winery

Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Burgundy's greatest small family estates, and their story is a classic Burgundy family story. They were one of the first families in Vosne Romanee to bottle and sell their own wine, beginning in the 1930's. The estate has been run by fifth-generation vigneron Etienne Grivot since 1987 with his wife Marielle. Product notes

As suggested by its name, the soil is poor and Roncieres almost non-existent in places, only the thorns are there enough to survive. Vine, thanks to its deep root system will draw deeply minerals and moisture needed to produce fruit. Located between Porrêts and Pruliers it is a beautiful land that receives maximum sunlight and perfect drainage.

Production notes

Only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes are kept. The scratch is made 95%. The pre-fermentation phase is 4 to 6 days. The fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts. A daily pumping is performed with controlled temperature and densities. Fermentation lasts about 17 days. Average of two extractions are made.

Tasting notes

The wines are a reflection of the terroir: Although typed Nuits with a little more finesse. Less powerful than its neighbors because less land and more of active limestone in the soil, the wine offers by Roncieres against an additional aromatic nuances. Still a long finish with a tannic finish very elegant and stylish, it is sometimes a bit faster than Pruliers but lives as long as it is bottled.
