About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. After seven generations of steadily acquiring properties throughout the Cotes de Nuits, the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes Chalonnaise and now Chablis, the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 120 hectares of...

Product notes

The climatic conditions were very mixed in 2016. The harvests took place later than usual in order to allow the grapes to reach their optimum ripeness levels. The wines present fruity aromas and have a smooth and fleshy mouth-feel. This is a very distinct vintage.

Production notes

The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. The portion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies depending on the vintage. The wines are pumped over twice daily in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skin of the grapes. After a 15 to 19 day vatting period, the alcoholic fermentation is complete. The free-run wine is run off using a gravity system whilst the marc is pressed slowly and gently in order to extract an exceptionally pure press wine. The wines are aged for 13 to 14 months in French oak barrels (20% of which are new oak) which have been selected for their fine grain and moderate toast. The wines are left to age in hygrometry-controlled cellars at consistent, natural temperatures.

Tasting notes

This wine reveals a powerful, fruity nose combining rich notes of red and black fruits and a subtle hint of oak. La Framboisière offers a powerful palate dominated by crunchy red fruits. Its velvety tannins and exceptional length make it a pleasure to drink!

(Vintage 2020)

A very impressive Mercurey, thanks to the generous raspberry and sour-cherry fruit character, the elegant tannins and the fresh acidity. Everything fits so neatly and there's enough structure for this to age really well. Excellent vitality at the long, uplifting finish.

(Vintage 2019)

The fragrant nose of raspberries with some floral notes pulls you into this medium-bodied, supple and elegant Mercurey that’s already delightful to drink, but also has the potential to age for some years, thanks the ripe, gentle tannins. Drink or hold.

(Vintage 2020)

Beaucoup plus délié et charmeur, La Framboisière est un vin joyeux et franc : son fruit épicé et suave, ses tanins abondants mais très intégrés composent un ensemble assez intense et généreux, qu'on pourra apprécier à tout âge.
