About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. After seven generations of steadily acquiring properties throughout the Cotes de Nuits, the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes Chalonnaise and now Chablis, the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 120 hectares of...

Product notes

The hand-picked harvest first goes through a short prefermentary maceration before the winemaking. For the whole 15 to 18 days of the vatting period, the wines are kept at low temperature.

Production notes

The wines are aged in oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, in 19th century vaulted cellars which provide ideal conditions for raising wines. The proportion of new oak, which may vary according to the vintage, represents on average two third of the cuvée. Those barrels come from high quality barrel makers and have been rigorously selected for their fine grain and light toast.

Tasting notes

The nose reveals oaky, fruity and spicy aromas. Then comes a full, round attack on the palate with velvety, silky tannins and a nice balance. This wine is characterized by its finesse, charm and elegance.

Bruce Sanderson, December 2019 (Vintage 2016)

A touch of gaminess in the aroma gives way to blackberry, black cherry, earth and iron flavors in this rich, solidly structured red. Vibrant and balanced, though this needs a little time to integrate. Terrific length. Best from 2023 through 2042.

Excellent blackberry and black-cherry fruit, the balance of ripe fruit, fine tannins and lively acidity resulting in harmony that’s so attractive, the finish so refreshing. Roughly two-thirds of this cuvee comes from vineyards close to the border with Vosne-Romanee, the rest from slightly further south.

Expressive, this red is full of bright, juicy black cherry, black currant, violet, mineral and spice flavors. It's silky, with a layer of dense tannins underneath, followed by a long, fresh finish. Best from 2022 through 2036. 1,080 cases made, 150 cases imported. — BS

William Kelley, (Vintage 2018)

Mingling aromas of wild berry fruits and orange rind with nuances of smoked meats and loamy soil, Faiveley's 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village derives from over three hectares of vineyards owned by the house. It's medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a rounded, charming personality that reveals none of the stereotypical Nuits asperity

(Vintage 2020)

Assez compact, le nuits-saint-georges reste comprimé par son élevage. Sec et raide en finale, il peine à s'exprimer.
