Product notes

The unique gravity flow winery enabled the grapes to be gently destemmed directly into open-top fermenters without pumping with approximately 25% as whole clusters. Traditional fermentation with a moderately long maceration on skins has extracted good colour and tannin with considerable depth of flavour. This wine was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels from artisan Burgundian coopers. In accordance with our non-interventionalist approach to winemaking, this wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and was not fined or filtered.

Tasting notes

As we have come to expect, Cornish Point has a slightly reserved nose as a young wine, with hints of dark fruit, raspberry, roses and crushed herbs. The palate is dense, a core of dark raspberry, then dark petals (rose and violets), and a pleasant waft of char. Serious texture and harmony, opulent yet refined. This is a brooding and powerful rendition from an outstanding vintage.

A very energetic pinot with a fine line of tannins running through with a powdery texture. Medium-bodied and very compacted with beautiful berry, strawberry and extremely long. Subtle complexity with salted caramel undertones.

Joe Czerwinski, (Vintage 2019)

The cedar-accented 2019 Cornish Point Pinot Noir matured 13 months in 30% new French oak, and while there is a woody thumbprint on the nose, the raspberry, black cherry and cola notes bleed through, making an even larger impression. Medium to full-bodied, broad and generous on the palate, this is marked by some dusty (but ripe) tannins, adding richness to the wine's texture in the mouth and on the lingering finish.

(Vintage 2019)

Fruit from Cornish Point vineyard whose vines are 18 years old. 23% whole cluster. 13 months' élevage in 30% new oak.
Healthy garnet with quite a pale rim. Notably richer nose than the Bannockburn blend. Very sweet palate entry and then it freshens up delightfully. Almost impossible to spit this. It's drinking beautifully already. This may be the bargain of the Felton Road 2019 Pinots. Quite long and layered. Fruit – raspberry? – dominates this wine which may not last forever but is almost irresistible already. Lovely fresh finish with a suggestion of ferns. GV
