About this winery

One of today’s leading companies in the Bordeaux wine sector, Lucien Lurton & Fils was set up by Lucien Lurton and his ten children in 1993. The business took the name La Passion des Terroirs in 1999 to mirror its strong attachment to terroir and the passion of a whole family for vines and wine throughout its history and to become a fullyfledged Bordeaux wine merchant. The company is now among the top 10 négociant houses in the Bordeaux market, distributing wines from all the appellations of...

2018 (Vintage 2015)

A linear and fine red with very polished tannins. Medium- to full-bodied, refined and pretty. Long and very polished.

The 2016 Grand Corbin-Despagne is bold and racy right out of the gate. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice, expresso and menthol flesh out in this decidedly ample, flamboyant wine.

The 2015 Grand Corbin Despagne is a powerful, brooding wine. Beams of tannin give it much of its shape and overall feel. Savory herbs, smoke, leather and tobacco add to an overall impression of pure power. Give this muscular Saint-Émilion at least a few years to soften. I suspect Grand Corbin Despagne will always display a virile style. Tasted two times.

Round, fleshy and generous with a certain firmness of tannin that provides lift. Good depth of fruit with a hint of mocha oak. Crunchy but refined.

(Vintage 2015)

Medium to deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2015 Grand Corbin-Despagne has gorgeous purity of crushed blackberries on the nose with hints of fragrant earth, roses and menthol plus a waft of unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate is firm with energetic fruit, a lively blackbone and a long, earthy finish.

Attractive violet-like flowers and fresh plums lead to a palate that has a juicy and succulent core of ripe red plums. Right at the limit of ripeness and balance. A blend of 85 per cent merlot and 15 per cent cabernet franc. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2022

James Molesworth, (Vintage 2015)

Lighter than many of its peers, but caressing in feel from start to finish, with pretty cassis and raspberry puree flavors playing out with light iron and rooibos tea notes. Best from 2020 through 2028.

The acidity is high here, as is the case in many of the St-Emilions in 2016. It emphasises the austerity of the tannins, but there's plenty of savoury fruit to back things up: cassis, damson, vanilla pod and a bitter note of black coffee.

(Vintage 2015)

Bravo.

: Dark purplish. Sweet and open but perhaps not that ambitious? Salty and a tad tough. Drink 2023-2032.
