About this winery

Tokaj Oremus is located in Tolcsva, one of the most well-known villages of the Tokaj-Hegyalja region, in the northeast of Hungary. The Tokaj Oremus is proud of its 115 hectares of vineyards in such a beautiful place as the Mandulás and Kútpatka strips, first class vineyards, which have been part of the heritage of noble families such as the Rákóczi, Szirmay and Dessewffly lineages. The vine, planted at the foot of the mountains, at an altitude below 200 metres above sea level, is safely...

Product notes

As far as we know, Tokaj’s first Aszú wine – sweet wine from botrytised grapes – was made almost four centuries ago, in 1630. And it was made in a vineyard called Oremus. Tokaji Aszú is the product of a two-stage fermentation. A base must of non-botrytised grapes is prepared first, and then the noble rot-affected berries added, swelling as they steep, before being pressed to small new oak barrels to complete the fermentation. The effect is a thrilling combination of richness and clarity. The base wine component contributes mouth-watering grapefruit and orange blossom flavours, which the botrytis element rounds out with decadent marmalade and fig.

Tasting notes

Tokaji Oremus Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2008 is a complex sweet wine with aromas of exotic, white and stone fruits, notes of acacia and honey and balsamic hints. On the palate it’s flavorsome, full and glyceric. It shows a balanced acidity which allows it not to be cloying and makes it easy to drink. The finish is lingering and with delicious toasted touches, and hints of confectionary and applesauce.

March 2021 (Vintage 2013)

A finely knit dessert wine, with backbone of lip-smacking acidity and a minerally underpinning of oyster shell and saline supporting flavors of white peach puree, tangerine, Marcona almond and candied ginger. This is loaded with flavor, expanding beautifully on the palate, but remains lithe and graceful throughout. Drink now through 2035. 4,375 cases made, 196 cases imported.

Neal Martin, December 2013 (Vintage 2000)

The 2000 Tokaji Aszu 5-Puttonyos has slightly less acidity than the 2001 due to the warm summer. It has a perfumed bouquet with scents of candied orange peel, apricot jam and a touch of caramel that is well-defined, hints of Earl Grey developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a nicely balanced viscous opening and fine minerality. The acidity is well-judged as it fans out with touches of marmalade, dried quince and spices toward the elegant finish. This is a very fine Tokaji for the vintage. Drink now-2030.

June 2008 (Vintage 2000)

Losing a little flesh in lieu of structure, this is nonetheless concentrated and fresh. Peach, pear compote and floral aromas and flavors flow gracefully, picking up a mineral note on the long finish. Great for fresh fruit tarts. Drink now through 2025. 11,000 cases made.
