Sokol Blosser is one of the pioneering estates of the Oregon state wine industry. In 1971 when Bill Blosser and Susan Sokol Blosser began converting an old prune orchard into a vineyard they became one of five bonded wineries in the region. Product notes
2013 was the driest year since 1985, which was one of the best years for Pinot Noir at Sokol Blosser. Harvest started on September 10 and ended on October 10, making this the first time in more than a decade that they were picking grapes over a five week period.
Production notes
The single block program showcases the variation and nuanced expressions of the different vineyards on the estate. All fruit for this program is grown in the Jory soils of the Dundee Hills. The grapes are harvested when the phenolic, sugar and acid strike the right balance, with the main focus being on flavour development. Once the grapes make it into the winery, they are all treated the same, which gives each vineyard block the opportunity to fully express its own unique characteristics. After aging, each barrel is tasted and hand selected by Winemaker Alex Sokol Blosser to be in the program. The single block wines are made for lengthy aging.

The 2013 Orchard Block Pinot Noir is brimming with flavors of orange zest, bing cherry and black pepper with a cocoa powder finish.
