About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

Product notes

Bottling date: 8/2016, Alcohol: 12.3° alc, Residual sweetness: 2.1 g/l; Total Acidity 3.7 g/l H2SO4 (5.6 g/l Tar), pH: 3.1; Yields: 59 hl/ha; Optimum drinking period: 2016-2023; Average age of the vines: 36 years; Terroir: Gravely/silt; 85% Muscat d’Alsace, 15% Ottonel. Indice 1. The Muscat grapes enjoyed a favorable flowering in 2015 leading to a potential good harvest. Unfortunately, the village Turckheim enjoyed particularly dry and hot months of June and July which made the berries stay quite small. Lots of grapes, but not as much wine as expected! This wine is made from grapes originating in the Herrenweg area (gravelly soil) benefiting from well drained soils which amplified the effect of the climate. Luckily, the Muscat d’Alsace (petit grain Muscat) is used to higher temperatures, especially the red coloured type. The change of colour was fast and homogenous, allowing for an early harvest and normal ripeness. The fermentation was normal and the wine finished very dry.

Tasting notes

bright pale yellow colour. Delicate nose, quite open, showing elegant minty, menthol, white flowers aromas. The Muscat grape variety is well present but without the excessive character it can sometime have. The palate is fresh, lively and super elegant, very dry with a juicy elegant acidity. Showing medium power, the finish leaves the mouth clean and fresh. This is a very easy wine to drink and its delicate/complex aromatic profile will make it so easy to pair with fresh seafood, fish, salads…. Unexpected for such a hot year!

A real charmer! Very bright, floral, crisp and sleek for Alsace. Lively acidity (no malolactic here!) enables it to dance its way light-footedly through the long, refreshing finish that pulls you back for more. From the alluvial Herrenweg vineyard of Turckheim and overwhelmingly from muscat a petits grains, with only a small amount of muscat ottonel. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.
