Le Domaine Jean Grivot est l’un des petits domaines familiaux les plus remarquables de la Bourgogne et son histoire est typique d’une famille bourguignonne. Dans les années 1930, les Grivot étaient parmi les premiers à embouteiller et à vendre leur propre vin dans la région de Vosnes-Romanée. Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers, Domaine Jean Grivot : Ce cru d'exception révèle un nez captivant mêlant cerise noire, truffe et réglisse. En bouche, une texture veloutée, des tanins puissants mais élégants, et une finale longue et complexe sur des nuances de sous-bois, d'épices et de cacao. Un vin d'une grande finesse et d'un potentiel de garde remarquable.
The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of generous red berry fruit, Earl Grey, pressed white flowers and just a slight orange blossom aroma. The palate is sweet on the entry, offering vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit. Mineralité floods through the wine on the persistent finish. Yet another scintillating contribution from this vineyard.
More discreet wood influence easily allows the aromas of plum, dark currant, earth and evident sauvage character to be appreciated. The richer, more powerful and more complex if less mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors are blessed with plenty of dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm, robust, compact and youthfully austere finale. I really like the sense of energy and while this is a big wine, it's not a block of tannin.

Pruliers is just north of Roncières, yet oddly seems less rustic and savoury. Grivot has 0.76ha of vines here, planted 50 years ago. The fruit ripens well and delivers a ripe plummy fruit, with notes of liquorice and violets. The texture is fine-grained and silky, while the heft of the weight on the palate is pleasant, indeed.

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pruliers displays aromas of plums, strawberries, rose petals and earthy soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate with good concentration and an open-knit, charming profile, concluding with some firm back-end tannin. This is an unusually accessible Pruliers that will offer atypically precocious drinking.
