About this winery

The vineyard sources for our wines stretch from western Sonoma county, some five miles from the Pacific to Carneros, just north of San Francisco Bay. The majority of our vineyards are owned and farmed by Kistler Vineyards. We also have long standing relationships with some of the finest growers in Sonoma and Napa County. Our vineyards are meticulously farmed, in order to produce wines of intense focus, and natural balance. Our yields average two and a half tons per acre. In deference to site,...

Product notes

Two heritage selections of Pinot Noir inform all of our Pinot Noirs. Originally hailing from a Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy, we’ve been propagating these two selections for the last twenty-five years. They, like our Chardonnay clone are very low yielding, resulting in wines with a natural density and concentration of flavor, balanced by elegant natural acids and elevated aromatics.

Tasting notes

A very fragrant wine with notes of cherry, cedar, cigar box, and tea gently emanating from the glass. On the palate, the wine has soft tannins and a solid, long finish.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, June 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast features expressive notions of black cherries, warm red plums, cranberries and baking spices with touches of violets and tilled black soil. Medium to full-bodied, it packs in the black and red berry layers on the palate with plenty of earth and spice accents and a solid frame of grainy tannins, finishing long and lively.

Antonio Galloni, April 2018 (Vintage 2015)

Kistler's 2015 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is lifted and gracious, with expressive floral notes and bright red berry fruit. The purity of the flavors is quite remarkable. I thought, and frankly expected, the 2015 to retain a bit more of the exuberance it showed from barrel. Today, the Sonoma Coast Pinot has developed into a wine of finesse and understatement rather than raciness. Even so, it is very pretty.
