The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 is persistent and nicely layered. Like so many 2016s, the 1882 comes across as quite youthful relative to how this wine has shown in previous vintages at a similar stage in its evolution. Today, it is the wine's length and silkiness that make me most hopeful for the future. There is good depth to the fruit, but also an attractive element of restraint.

Fondé dans les années 1800 par un capitaine de navire finlandais prospère, Gustave Niebaum, Inglenook Estate, situé à Rutherford en Californie, était jadis le domaine vinicole le plus réputé de la vallée de Napa. Au fil des ans, le domaine est passé entre les mains des descendants de Niebaum.

A little hard on the nose, it's very young still. Medium- to full-bodied, this is certainly Hermitage, it has that grandeur and stature. Intense and structured, this is good, but will improve. You can open this now, but try to wait until 2025.
