About this winery

Borgogno was established in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno and has long been one of the most recognized names in Piedmont. Evidence of the estate's fame comes from the selection of Borgogno Barolo as the wine served at the celebration dinner for the Italian Unification in 1861. From this point on it was one of the House of Savoy's official suppliers and was regularly served to visiting dignitaries. Over the years the estate has acquired some beautiful holdings including vineyards in the Crus of...

Production notes

Derthona results of refining for at least 18 months of the Timorasso grape: an ancient wine, which has been brought back to life, characterized by power, structure, mineral complexity and other aromatic characteristics that allows to foresee very wide scope of evolution over time. Longevity, which is unusual for white wines, is made by the variety, the terroir and the winemaking method.

Tasting notes

The color is very clear, intense and consistent. It is intense and complex on the nose: in the early years there are fruity smells reminiscent of pear, peach and floreal smells such as acacia flowers and hawthorn with well-defined spun sugar notes. The honey note is very typical of this wine. Dry, warm and soft wine with a good match between high levels of alcohol and organic acids. Derthona reaches its peak when the green tinges dissolves into a golden colour.

(Vintage 2019)

The first vintage from 100% estate-owned grapes, grown in Colli Tortonesi and macerated for three days in stainless steel then cold-settled, before fermentation in cement. Matured in stainless steel for 10 months and then seven months in bottle, it jumps from the glass with honeyed, waxy aromas, super-fresh yet hinting at richness. Flavours of pithy citrus peel, hay and lanolin on the textured palate are well balanced by gum-tingling acidity. An ageable white that will reveal more layers in time.

(Vintage 2019)

This is from the local timorasso grape and is typically bold with lots of honeyed and mineral-coated pear and white peach. Floral notes, too. Medium-bodied with a tight, phenolic feel to the palate. Focused white with lots of interest. Lots of long, peachy fruit in the aftertaste. Brawny, different and delicious. Drink now.
