About this winery

Chiara Boschis has an incredible story. In a region where women winemakers are far from the norm she has built a collection of wines that is the envy of many. The E Pira e Figli estate was passed from father to son for centuries, until the late 1980’s when Luigi Pira passed away. At that time his sisters who inherited the vineyards felt that they could no longer maintain the estate. Hoping to keep the tradition alive they sold the estate to Chiara Boschis whose family had long been friends of...

June 2019 (Vintage 2015)

Aromatic depth here, drawing you in with cascading layers of flowers and leaves, fresh-tilled earth laced with woody spices, white pepper and fresh red fruit. The palate carries a very sturdy frame of fine, dense tannins. This is placed in the top league of 2015 Barolo wines. Long and succulent build through the finish. Try from 2024.

(Vintage 2018)

This Mosconi from Chiara Boschis comes from a calcareous marl soil at almost 400 metres above sea level. The wine is quite a dense ruby colour in the glass, with restrained forest floor scents and whiffs of rosemary, chocolate and wild red fruits. Filigreed and complex, the palate has a delicate attack, firm tannins and good density, with flavours of tar and plenty of violet and pomegranate. Biting and still austere but softened by the French barriques - where the wine ages for two years - it's not ready to drink now yet will evolve nicely.

Monica Larner, (Vintage 2015)

Plenty of tense, wild-strawberry character to this with bright minerals, too. Medium-bodied with a punchy core of bright fruit, tight tannins and a tense, crystalline finish. From organically grown grapes. Needs time to even out.

Antonio Galloni, (Vintage 2015)
