About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. William Kelley, (Vintage 2019)

Aromas of plums, rich forest floor, warm spices and smoked meats introduce the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium-bodied, bright and elegant wine that's satiny and melting, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins. This is as fine a rendition of the Clos de l'Écu as I can remember tasting.

Charles Curtis,

Clos de l'Ecu is a 2.37ha monopole, purchased from Jaboulet-Vercherre in 2003, which forms the upper portion of l’Ecu, just underneath the woods at the top. The site ripened fruit well in 2019, producing a lovely deep colour, dark fruit on the nose and a slightly savoury note. On the palate, it is tannic, structured and almost a bit rustic. The sweet fruit comes through on the finish.
