About this winery

The Chave family is the epitome of 'People, Place and Time'. They have been vignerons in the Rhône valley since 1481 - an astonishing 16 generations. Originally the family farmed only in St. Joseph, moving to Hermitage about a century ago when phylloxera swept through the region. Tasting notes

The grapes come from 3 distinctive parts of the Hermitage hill. Diognières is at the base of the hill on alluvial soil and it lends spice flavours to the wine. The next parcel is Péleat. It sits above Diognières and is composed of more sand and limestone in the clay. It gives finesse to the wine. Greffieux sits at the base of Le Meal on the hill. Its soil consists of rolled river stones brought by the glaciers. It lends body to the wine.

Comme résister à l'incroyable profondeur et au côté vivant de l'hermitage rouge qui explose en bouche et se déploie avec grâce et force. Précis, très pur dans l'expression du fruit. Plus qu'un grand vin, un vin émouvant !

James Molesworth, October 2019 (Vintage 2015)

Ripe and fleshy, with an open-knit personality to the mix of steeped blackberry and black cherry compote flavors, backed by anise, smoldering black tea and loam notes. Offers well-integrated grip, making this approachable while giving it staying power. Drink now through 2032.

Matt Walls , (Vintage 2017)

A little hard on the nose, it's very young still. Medium- to full-bodied, this is certainly Hermitage, it has that grandeur and stature. Intense and structured, this is good, but will improve. You can open this now, but try to wait until 2025.

Interesting nose with a distinct earthy note, five-spice and quite dominant oak at the moment. Rounded and spiced with crushed fruit and delineated tannins that are still resolving. Oak is still quite present on the plate and is a little tight and introverted at the moment. (AC)
