About this winery
"The same old thing. There's plenty of that. Why make more? When I started out, I wanted to make wine that I liked to drink. I wanted to excite me, not cater to a demographic. Product notes
The 2016 growing season was a little warmer and somewhat dryer than the long term average in the NSW Central Ranges. It was the earliest harvest and shortest vintage from first to last harvested grapes in Logan’s 20 years. These conditions produced richly flavoured grapes with good texture and varietal characters.
Production notes
After crushing, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel. The cap was pumped over twice a day during the 7 day fermentation period. After malolactic fermentation, 40% of the wine was matured in 5 to 8 year old French Hogsheads for 12 months. The remaining 60% was matured in stainless steel to maximise fruit character. The wine was filtered before bottling.
Tasting notes
The lovely 2016 Apple Tree Flat Shiraz is a lovely crimson red colour. The perfumed aroma shows characters of red berries, cherry, white pepper and star anise with a floral lift. The fleshy palate has bright flavours of mixed berries, plums, cinnamon and liquorice.
