About this winery

Sette Ponti reflects the vision of Dr. Antonio Moretti, who took over the estate from his father in the late 1990's, and immediately began producing estate-bottled wines. The vineyards occupy a total of 150 acres, at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters; the oldest vines (mostly sangiovese) date from 1935. Currant, flower and orange-blossom aromas follow through to a full body with fine, creamy tannins and a long, persistent finish. Shows finesse and precision. Cherry and orange-peel notes at the end. The flavors go on and on. Better after 2022.

A fresh yet rich and dense red with cherries, berries, light cream and hints of hazelnuts. Full body, soft and layered tannins and a fruity finish. Reserved and tight. Shows balance for 2017. Better after 2021.

Monica Larner, (Vintage 2018)

The flagship wine from Tenuta Sette Ponti is the 2018 Oreno, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. This is a dark, concentrated and full-bodied expression that exudes black fruit and blackberry with spicy tobacco and savory spice. Despite the Bordeaux blend in its DNA, the wine is fully Tuscan in character and spirit, with the softness and fullness that comes from fruit cultivated under the golden sunshine of Central Italy.

Bruce Sanderson, February 2020 (Vintage 2017)

A big, brawny red, this delivers flavors of black cherry, plum and spice, with hints of wild rosemary. Ends with a dry feel and lightly astringent tannins that may upset the balance as this ages, but stays fresh overall. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2028.

Kerin O'Keefe, (Vintage 2018)

The nose on this Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot blend recalls aromas of black plum, cooking spice and mocha. The dense, brawny palate presents dried black currant, clove and roasted coffee bean alongside grainy tannins and the heat of evident alcohol. Drink through 2026
