About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

ANNE KREBIEHL, (Vintage 2016)

Something vivid and bright gives an unusually light step to this Alsace Pinot Gris. Notes of flesh and skin of ripe russet pear play on the nose. On the dry palate they attain extra purity, guided by lemon freshness. The finish is dry, lip-smacking and lasting. Lovely now, it's sure to develop. Drink now–2030.

Ian D'Agata, January 2019 (Vintage 2016)

Bright golden-tinged yellow. Very smoky nose of mirabelle, peach and minerals. Then fresh and juicy, presenting a lively mouthfeel and bright spicy nuances to the ripe apple and lime fruit flavors. Finishes long and dense. Very impressive Pinot Gris that tastes classically dry despite its 6.1 g/l residual sugar.

(Vintage 2016)

Citrus and white peaches on the nose, making it very lively. A juicy and crisp wine has a lot of energy and citrusy freshness at the long, dry finish. Drink now or in 2019 and 2020. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

Stephan Reinhardt, October 2018 (Vintage 2016)

From 34-year-old vines, the 2016 Wintzenheim Pinot Gris Rotenberg is from a west/northwest-facing vineyard on iron-rich limestone soils of the oligocene period. The pale yellow colored 2016 offers an intense, pure and fresh bouquet of ripe white fruits intermixed with spicy and earthy-mineral notes. Lush and even piquant on the palate, this is an elegant, intense, fresh and well-structured Pinot Gris with fine tannins and a long, pretty complex finish. This is an excellent food wine even though it is not fermented completely dry (6.1 grams per liter of residual sugar and 12.5% alcohol). So, if you like Pint Gris but often find it too rich and powerful, this 2016 is the wine you should try. Bottled in August 2017, tasted at the domaine in June 2018.

December 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Lightly aromatic, with peach blossom and spice notes, this light- to medium-bodied Pinot Gris is balanced and mouthwatering, showing a light fleshiness to the flavors of nectarine, sliced almond and tangerine. Offers a clean-cut, saline-tinged finish. Drink now through 2023. 376 cases made, 41 cases imported.

Stephen Brook, February 2020 (Vintage 2016)

Despite ferocious mildew attacks in late spring, the 2016 Rotenberg turned out well. The nose is curious, with subdued marzipan as well as tropical fruit aromas, and it's floral too. Suave and rounded, this is very concentrated, with fine extract but only moderate acidity. This gives a rather blunt finish but there's limpidity and length too.
