About this winery

In Mercurey, a village nestled in Burgundy on the famous Côte Chalonnaise, the Michel Julliot Estate, which has existed for four generations, cultivates 30 hectares of vines producing a large selection of the best "climats" Mercurey has to offer as well as several Côte de Beaune crus. The quality of a wine is the result of the straightforwardness and the brightness of its color, the delicacy and the clarity of its aromas, the intensity, the complexity, and the persistancy of its flavors....

Coup de cœur - Guide vert 2023

Rouge profond, brillant. Clos des Barraults exprime la pureté d'un pinot mûr aux accents de violettes et framboises. La bouche est concentrée, veloutée, fraîche et élégamment boisé. C'est une bouteille qui fait honneur à son appellation.

William Kelley, (Vintage 2016)

The 2016 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Barraults is excellent, bursting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of ripe cherries, licorice, grilled squab and rose petal. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent, its fine, chalky tannins almost completely concealed by tangy fruit, concluding with a long finish. It's Laurent Juillot's favorite in the range, and mine too.

William Kelley, (Vintage 2016)

An attractive and projected nose of smoky red cherry fruit and liquorice precedes a rich, full-bodied wine with lots of energy, its flavours delineated with crystalline purity. This boasts similar amplitude and dimension to the Clos du Roi, but is more vertical and a touch less gourmand.

(Vintage 2018)

Clos des Barraults montre sa puissance, sous son nez très griotté, il offre au palais l’apanage d’un cru de garde, viril et élancé.

(Vintage 2016)

Here the wood treatment is also quite prominent and can be accurately described as very toasty though it does not dominate the sauvage and pepper-inflected nose of violet, earth, black currant and humus aromas. There is impressive richness to the suave and opulent middle weight flavors that possess a relatively fine mouth feel that is enhanced by equally fine tannins that come up on the dusty and bitter cherry finish.

2019 (Vintage 2016)

Toujours une grande dimension, un relief de pinot noir où le grain de tanin est plus conséquent. L'ensemble est bien balancé et élégant.
