About this winery

The Chave family is the epitome of 'People, Place and Time'. They have been vignerons in the Rhône valley since 1481 - an astonishing 16 generations. Originally the family farmed only in St. Joseph, moving to Hermitage about a century ago when phylloxera swept through the region. Product notes

Mon Cœur is a blend of 4 plots of vines aged 20 to 60 years old. Located at the heart of the garrigue on alluvial soil, "Visan" imparts power and elegance to the Syrah. Along the Aygues river, "Buisson" lies on a soil composed of pebble stones, which allows Grenache grapes to ripe perfectly and fully express their texture and fruity character. Known as "l’Enclave des Papes", "Vinsobres" is located further south, at high altitude (900 feets); syrah vines are planted in limestone soils. Finally, "Estézargues", the southernmost plot, is planted with old Grenache vines on clay soils. These vines produce sensual wines that are rich in glycerol.

Tasting notes

The wine shows an intense purplish red color. On the nose, which is quite powerful, aromas of blackberries, plums, black cherries, and cocoa prevail. Enjoy this red wine displaying good acidity and smooth tannins. On the palate, the wine is full and ends on a lingering finish.

(Vintage 2020)

A generous, ripe red, with blackberry puree, sappy black licorice and violet notes that are round and supple on the palate. Gains balance from a refreshing beam of singed thyme and iron, while the finish is tied up nicely with firming, mesquite-tinged tannins. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2025.
