About this winery

"Domaine & Maison Les Alexandrins" came into being with the collaboration of three figures of the Northern Rhone Valley: Nicolas Jaboulet, 6th generation of a winegrowing family in Tain l’Hermitage since 1834, Guillaume Sorrel, son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage, and Alexandre Caso, specialist in the terroirs of the Northern Rhone. Product notes

Our wine comes from Marsanne vines, with an average age of 20 years old. Our blend originates from two terroirs: on one side, from one plot planted on granite slopes (with limestone on the surface), and on the other side, from the stony plain in the commune of Chanos Curson. After a very dry winter and early spring, May and June were both rainy and sunny, which was beneficial to the vine. On the edge of summer, we were ahead of schedule, but an intense heat wave delayed ripening. Due to these conditions, sustained efforts have been made in the vineyard to prevent illnesses and to get the grapes into a very satisfying sanitary state. The harvest started in the middle of September. We noticed differences in the ripeness depending on the areas, which gave us no choice but to continue harvesting until the first days of October. The yields were also quite different according to the appellation and parcel. In September, the sun dominated most of the time and the ripening occurred progressively. The crop came in continuously until the first days of October to allow high-altitude parcels to reach full maturity. The crop was healthy and plentiful, with grapes of good quality.

Production notes

Whole-bunch pressing followed by settling of the must. Fermentations are carried out at low temperature, directly in barrels (2-3 years old). The wine is aged in barrels on its lees for 5-6 months to add complexity and richness. The wine was bottled in May 2011.

Tasting notes

The wine displays a beautiful, pale yellow color. The nose expresses citrus and hazelnut notes. On the palate, the wine is lively, balanced and fresh.
