Montevertine is located in the heart of Chianti, on the top of a hill at 425 meters of altitude. Ancient documents indicate that the site has existed since the 11th century. In 1967, Sergio Manetti bought Montevertine as a vacation property while he still was a steel metallurgist. He planted two hectares and built a small cellar to produce some wine for his friends and customers. In 1971, he produced his first vintage which enjoyed immediate success. As a matter of fact, it was very appreciated at the Vinitaly wine show in Verona, which was hosted by the Sienna Chamber of Commerce. Manetti was so enthusiastic that he decided, a few years later, to devote himself entirely to winemaking. The company defined its structure as new vineyards were planted and new cellar were installed. Sergio Manetti passed away on November 2000. Since then, his son Martino Manetti took the reins, assisted by his brother Klaus Johann Reimitz and Bruno Bini (born in Montevertine), an in-depth expert of the region. Giulio Gambelli acts as the wine consultant.
