About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. After seven generations of steadily acquiring properties throughout the Cotes de Nuits, the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes Chalonnaise and now Chablis, the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 120 hectares of...

February 2019 (Vintage 2018)

Lots of roses and spice make this seductive, in spite of its youth. Rich and very suave with very polished tannins, which build to form a tidal wave at the supple finish. Better from 2022.

William Kelley, January 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is another of the portfolio's high-points this year, bursting with aromas of wild berries, orange rind, incense and smoked meats. On the palate, it's full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with old-vine concentration, broad shoulders and a long finish. While this is a muscular, serious Charmes, it's also very elegantly rendered.

Neal Martin, December 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an attractive sea cave/oyster shell nose that opens nicely with aeration; very well defined, with plenty of intense black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite "solid" and maybe rather brutish at the moment, though it should soften with time.

2019 (Vintage 2018)

Barrel sample. Mid crimson. Less sweet-smelling than the Clos de Vougeot, with plenty of open, dark-red fruit and also a light herbal note, which lifts it and adds freshness. Firm and dry on the palate, dry yet elegant, the fruit filling out the core. Chalk-fine texture. A little constrained at the moment. (JH)
