About this winery

Vega Sicilia is a legendary estate recognized worldwide – and for good reason: this old property, dating from 1864, produces several high quality wines, including the renowned “Unico” which is subjected to an extremely long ageing process (up to 8 years before bottling), what delights the most demanding palates around the world. Founded in 1864 by Eloy Lecanda, the property bought its first vines in Bordeaux. The estate produced the first vintage of Vega Sicilia Valbuena and Vega Sicilia...

Josh Raynolds, February 2021 (Vintage 2009)

Saturated garnet. An expansive bouquet presents an array of dark fruit and floral qualities that are complemented by suggestions of exotic spices, vanilla, pipe tobacco and cedary oak. Stains the palate with concentrated, smoke-tinged cherry liqueur, cassis, fruitcake and candied licorice flavors, braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Shows excellent depth as well as energy and finishes extremely long and chewy, with resonating florality and sneaky tannins. This is the 2021 release for this always-intriguing wine, and it seems to be leading with its structured, 2010 component right now.

Anthony Rose,

A blend of mainly Tinto Fino with some Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2005, 2006 and 2007 vintages of Unico, this shows notes of fennel, liquorice and game with a background whiff of American oak char. Silkier and more seamlessly approachable in texture than the 2006 Unico, yet intense in its fruit richness and Burgundian-like, savoury finish.

Ferran Centelles,

Very complete in everything, open in aromas, but still highlighting the fruit. I like the freshness it has, which gives it depth. It is a bouquet wine, with dry herbs and a lot of cedar wood, but one that does not leave any loose ends, it is complete. It has a black-fruit personality on the palate and the texture is all silky. A wine that will grow, because it is less rich in tertiary aromas than the average. A wine to invest in, without a doubt.
