L'Ecole Nº 41 est une entreprise familiale fondée par Jean et Baker Ferguson. Aujourd'hui, le chai appartient à leur fille et à leur gendre, Megan et Martin Clubb, qui en assurent également l'exploitation. Construite en 1915, l'école est située dans la localité historique de Frenchtown, une petite collectivité à l'ouest de Walla Walla, dans l'État de Washington. Notes sur le produit

Le vin a été entièrement soutiré proprement en petits fûts de chêne français, 50 % neufs, avec quatre soutirages sur 22 mois. Les sucres plus élevés étaient équilibrés par des niveaux d'acide plus élevés et une couleur merveilleusement intense et l'extraction des tanins, de gros arômes de fruits et une structure globale équilibrée. Un autre fort millésime de Washington.

Notes de dégustation

Avec un profil de saveur nettement influencé par son sol de basalte volcanique, Ferguson est un vin richement structuré offrant des arômes complexes de mûres, de violette expressive, de prune noire et de bois de santal. Les couches de fruits et d'Espresso sont encadrées par des tanins relevés, intégrés au graphite et aux pierres concassées en bouche. Précise et structurée, l'acidité naturelle prononcée de Ferguson se prolonge jusqu'à une finale satinée mais ferme.

My favorite of the three special cuvees, the 2014 Ferguson checks in as a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. It knocks it out of the park with its dark, savory, mineral-laced fruit and is full-bodied, deep, rich and concentrated on the palate. This beautiful wine has building structure

Notes of blackberries, blueberries and spices on the nose. It’s fullbodied with chewy tannins. Structured, with a lot of wood and a juicy character on the center-palate. Mineral and racy. Flavorful finish. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon, 24% merlot, 11% cabernet franc, 5% malbec and 5% petit verdot. Drink in 2024.

Owen Bargreen , (Millésime 2018)

A compelling blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon with 24% Merlot and smaller parts Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot sourced from this high elevation site in the Walla Walla Valley. Once on the nose this takes on layers of crème de cassis and charcoal tones that mingle with exotic spices on this fantastic bouquet. This is refined stuff the shows great tension and salinity. Intense dark fruits mingle with minerals, cigar ash and Turkish coffee tones on the palate, with firm tannins holding everything well in place. Drinking Window 2024 - 2040

The 2018 Ferguson Estate Ferguson Vineyard comes from an estate vineyard in Walla Walla and is based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot. Lots of earthy currants and mulberry fruits, new leather, tobacco, and cedary herb notes define the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a backward, unevolved profile, ripe tannins, and outstanding length on the finish. It opens up gradually with time in the glass and has a more savory, herbal, floral, complex, incredibly compelling character. It needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years and it should keep for 15-20 years nicely.

Sean Sullivan , (Millésime 2018)

Cabernet Sauvignon comprises 55% of this wine, with the balance Merlot (24%), Cabernet Franc (11%), and then equal parts Malbec and Petit Verdot. It’s locked up tightly at present, with notes of cherry, black tea, raspberry and spice. The fruit flavors show sophistication. It’s packed tightly with fruit, acid, and tannin. It will have a very long life ahead of it. Don’t go near it until at least 2030. It will have an easy decade-plus of great drinking beyond that. Quality, intensity, balance, structure, and seemingly endless aging potential.

Stephen Tanzer, Octobre 2017 (Millésime 2014)

Bright medium ruby. Rich, complex scents of blackcurrant, minerals,chocolate, wild herbs, cedar, tobacco and smoky oak. Fat and sweet but juicy too, showing lovely mineral energy to the dark fruit and tobacco flavors. A floral component adds lift and dimension to the wine. Dusty noble tannins reach the front teeth. This is still a baby but is not at all austere even today. Clubb noted that winemaker Mike Sharon is especially gentle with this wine as it's very easy to overextract.

Anthony Mueller, (Millésime 2018)

Composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Ferguson Vineyard starts with a gorgeous nose of elegant oak, fresh and ripe fruit tones and resinous purple flowers. Full-bodied, the blend displays immaculate balance, possessing both power and precision as flavors of spiced cherry compote, black plum skin and redcurrant sway with seductive tones of vanilla, cinnamon and nuances of cardamom madeleines. The wonderfully structured mid-palate displays firm tannins that will loosen in time, before concluding with a long-lingering and ever-evolving finish. The wine rested 22 months in French oak, 50% new. It’s superb, and the best thing to do is to put it in the cellar and forget about it for a few years until it’s found its stride. Bravo, I think I might finish the glass.

This is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot. The aromas pop, with notes of blackberry, black cherry, mineral and cinnamon stick. The palate brings a mouthful of fruit flavor, with so much plumpness it almost hides all of the structure that's behind it, but there is plenty. It reflects the vintage well, showing freshness, depth of flavor and polish. Hold until 2029 to see it at its best.

This wine comes from a recently planted area of valley, high on a ridge top. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec, the aromas boast high-toned notes of mineral, herb, cherry, licorice and dark fruit. The cranberry and cherry flavors bring a sense of concentration and richness. It shows well now, but should only get better with some additional time in the bottle.

Notes of fresh, juicy plum, violet and violet candy on the nose move into a decidedly mouth-watering palate. There is vibrant acidity, more apparent than in several previous vintages, while the tannin is fine-grained and persistent. Flavours are generous, friendly and well balanced. This is a pleasing wine that balances serious structure and ageability with abundant flavour and a willingness to deliver pleasure. The wine is quite juicy right now but will benefit from more time in bottle. But the tannin is fine-grained enough that it can be opened now if it is decanted. The abundant acidity makes this vintage a standout in the line-up.
