The Alpha Domus vineyard and winery were established by the Ham Family in 1990, in the Bridge Pā district of Hawke’s Bay. Barnstormers were dare devil stunt pilots who roamed the country side in the roaring twenties, bringing aerial excitement to a public thirsty for this wild new thrill.
Grapes were picked in several passes from our estate vineyard to obtain a range of ripeness levels and to add complexity. The grapes were gently destemmed and lightly crushed to purpose built red fermentation tanks. This is an aromatic Syrah, medium bodied with flavours of dark berry fruits black olive and savoury tones. French oak imparts spice and vanilla. Soft supple tannins and a lingering finish make this an excellent food wine.
Gracieuse, svelte et élancée, fraîche, suave et fort bien habillée, voilà qui ouvre déjà quelque perspective de perception pour une syrah, certes peu concentrée, mais d’un contact direct qui demeure courtois. Le fruité y est précis, avec ce petit côté tapenade un rien fumé à la clef. On y revient pour terminer rapidement la bouteille.
