About this winery

The Roger family, vintners in Bué since the 17th century, has been led by Jean-Max and Nicole since the 1970s. Starting with 4 hectares, they expanded their estate to 35 hectares across Sancerre and Menetou-Salon, scaling back their trading activities. Today, they exclusively trade Pouilly-Fumé and occasionally Sancerre red and rosé, as well as Menetou-Salon white and red wines. Since 2005, their sons Thibault and Etienne have been shaping the identity and style of the wines, continuing the...

Production notes

-Handpicking, the grapes are pressed immediately using a pneumatic press. The must is allowed to cold settle for 48 to 72 hours before being racked : this preserves the aromas and flavors and eliminates any vegetal debris or dust -Long fermentation with sequential yeasting under monitored temperatures in stainless steel tanks and 400-L barrels: develops the wine’s aromatic complexity. -Aged on full fermentation lees until the first racking, which takes place between February and April: develops minerality. -Blending of the tank and barrel-aged wines: the proportion of barrel-aged wine varies according to the vintage but does not exceed 30% of the final blend. -Bentonite fined, then filtered: enhances the flavours and aromas and stabilizes the wine. -Estate-bottled, the wine is stored for 2 months before being released: this allows the wines to be given the chance to rest after having been bottled.

Tasting notes

Brilliant, pale yellow in colour with green and golden highlights. The first nose is very complex: it boasts primarily floral aromas along with notes of spices, vanilla and ginger. Starts off bold on the palate, evolving towards a slightly tannic finish that lends overall freshness.

Rebecca Gibb MW, (Vintage 2016)

At five years old, the 2016 Sancerre La Côte de Bué is taking on the aromas of maturing Sauvignon Blanc, namely lime marmalade on toast and almond meal. It's a powerful, richly aromatic style with a firm line of tension that runs through the core of the wine and provides a lengthy, structured finish. This is partly fermented in barrel, rounding Sauvignon's edges; however, it’s quite a mouthful, and the bold tannic essence of the site speaks clearly here.

(Vintage 2016)
